Car il y a celui qui a joué dans la fanfare municipale, il y a bien longtemps, mais parce qu’il pourrait jouer de la musique se croit musicien. C’est quand même fou, tout ce déploiement de force, de volonté, de solidarité pour un bout de mur. Comme un rêve, un doux rêve. Mathilde s’est installée à la table de la salle à manger. Un bloc note, un dictionnaire, un crayon graphite et une gomme. Elle a sollicité une petite heure de tranquillité, le temps et l’attention consacrés à un premier jet de sa pétition, soumis ensuite à l’approbation ou aux amendements du groupe. Car il s’agit de nous entendre sur l’exact soutien que nous recherchons auprès de la population : appelons-nous au simple respect de mon mur, ou allons-nous jusqu’à réclamer la fin du dictat culturel dans cette ville ?

J’éteins la lampe au néon blanc. Les yeux me brûlent. Je m’étire en commençant par les bras, l’articulation d’une épaule craque. J’assouplis ma nuque par des rotations ovoïdes, une vertèbre craque. Je descends de ma chaise haute, esquisse quelques mouvements des jambes, un genou craque. Je me fais l’impression d’être une vieille baraque qu’un léger vent redresse sur ses fragiles fondations. J’ai l’habitude de ces autokinésithérapeuties ; les longues séances de peinture me laissent chaque fois dans un sale état, membres et muscles durs comme le bois. C’est égal ! J’oublie tout lorsque, d’un regard embrassant le bristol, la sensation d’avoir bien œuvré me remplit d’aise. Lors, la fatigue et les douleurs volent en éclats. Il arrive parfois que le résultat me laisse sur ma faim, d’éprouver le sentiment d’avoir été futile dans mon travail ; ces fois-là , rien n’y fait : le corps reste mâché, l’esprit chagrin ; ce sont des heures où j’ai plus de dix mille ans…

N’est-il pas extravagant de mettre un prix aussi fou dans un cadre si doré ? C’est devenu mon rituel dominical depuis le départ d’Iris : je me fais mon petit casse-croûte du midi à une table du bistrot, histoire de déroger au tête-à -tête avec mes œufs au plat. Je ne sais comment fait Tag pour tenir le coup : toujours sur la brèche ; et surtout d’où lui vient le courage de peindre, après des journées aux heures élastiques passées sur les jambes, à courir d’une table à l’autre. Heureusement le dimanche, jour de la famille, le consommateur se fait plus rare. Seuls les irréductibles bravent les traditions.

Comme d’elle-même, une semaine a passé, ou peut-être un peu plus… Ayant renoué avec le goût du travail, je n’ai guère eu l’œil sur le calendrier. L’atmosphère de l’atelier possède ceci de particulier qu’il me déboussole aisément. Le premier jour est à peu près conforme aux heures égrenées par la pendule ; au second, le décalage commence ; au troisième, il est consommé. Oubliées les conventions horlogères et sociales ; impasses sur les impératifs journaliers, voire corporels. La vie se fait au rythme de l’esprit et de l’ouvrage, non plus sur celui des fonctions vitales du corps. Jusqu’au moment où il faut bien se rendre à l’évidence : je ne suis qu’un être humain parmi tant d’autres…

68 pointe du doigt un assez grand format, à dominante rouge et jaune. Deux personnages, manifestement de sexe opposé, se cachent plus ou moins derrière un gros sac percé, duquel s’échappent des pommes de terre. L’une d’elles, énorme, a boulé un peu plus loin, écrasant sur son passage une rose blanche. Le titre du tableau : La vengeance des tubercules. Malgré la bonne impression que semble avoir mon guide, ce que je vois n’en reste pas moins à mes yeux du sous-Combas. Pensée qui m’a échappé à haute voix.

La bonne température de l’eau, c’est lorsque, une fois dedans, je prends les couleurs de l’écrevisse que le chef ébouillante. Voilà une autre raison à mon horreur de la mer et de tous les océans : le Bon Dieu a oublié le chauffe-bain. Hum ! Un bain chaud pour mon empire ! Je ne connais pas meilleure automédication contre la fatigue, les nerfs, la mélancolie. Enfermé dans ce volume parfaitement blanc, sans autre ouverture que la porte, isolé du monde et de ses tracas, comment ne pourrais-je ne pas croire au bonheur ? Ah ! Si seulement j’avais pris le temps de m’attaquer au trompe l’œil, sis à la baignoire, qu’Iris m’a si souvent demandé, la bulle serait parfaite, et nous n’en serions peut-être pas là .

Le tout, si je veux garder la tête froide, étant de faire la part des choses. Entre l’un prêt à me lapider, les autres à m’encenser, je crois pouvoir m’en sortir en m’accrochant à la véritable genèse de mon mur : prendre ma place dans la cité et jouer mon rôle au sein de la communauté. Une petite place, un petit rôle. Néanmoins le nécessaire pour me sentir à l’aise dans mes charentaises, et croire qu’un peu de poésie picturale puisse encore ralentir le désir humanoïde et effréné de la rentabilisation du temps, de l’espace et des relations.
